Nebraska LB Lavonte David is a bit undersized. However, he’s a “plus” athlete who can turn and run down the field. He’s loose in the hips, diagnoses plays quickly and always puts himself around the football. In the run game he’s routinely getting early jumps on the actions and knows how to scrape the edge and break down into contact.
Wednesday was the best day of practice in my view for Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard. He was physical in press coverage, did a nice job staying in receivers back pockets down the field and competes when asked to go make a play on the football. He still lets opposing wide outs get behind him. However, as a potential cover two guy he should be able to find a home.

Unless New Orleans can get a deal done with Brees in the next month, the Saints will have to use their franchise tag on him, which means they will not have it available for wide receiver Marques Colston or Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks. Colston already has said he will not give New Orleans a hometown discount, and Nicks also is expected to leave New Orleans, according to league sources. The Saints already have committed big money to guard Jahri Evans. It would be challenging for New Orleans to make two guards two of the highest-paid players at their position in the league, and so the lack of a tag probably means goodbye to Nicks. Failing to get a deal done with Brees might not have seemed like a significant issue at the time, but it will cost New Orleans.

"I like Helu. He's doing some great things," head coach Mike Shanahan said. "I don't want to put too much pressure on him too early. He's not ready for that. But he's gaining experience, and I like what I see." Torain started in Week 11 against the Dallas Cowboys, but Helu and RB Tashard Choice saw plenty of work. Shanahan isn't tipping his hand as to which running back will start in Week 12, but the team has started to roll with veteran players in the starting lineup recently. Shanahan doesn't want to rush Helu, but Torain isn't making the most of his opportunities to start games as the leading back.

On a punt return, he lined up for a short kick several yards in front of Brandon Banks. The two had a miscommunication that resulted in Paul's catching the kick, trying – and failing – to hand it to Banks and being tackled for no gain.
“It was definitely an in-between [kick],” Paul said. “I started backing up, didn’t hear Banks coming and didn’t hear the call. They wanted us to field the ball, so I had to make sure I did that.”
Later, on Brian Orakpo’s blocked field goal, Paul swooped in from around one end, and he almost got the kick.
“I heard everybody go crazy, but I didn’t touch it at all,” Paul said.
Paul got the nod at receiver ahead of Donte’ Stallworth and Leonard Hankerson.
“Niles Paul has by far been a guy that can work on special teams – he’s been consistent through all the preseason games and by the way he’s practiced,” coach Mike Shanahan said. “Hankerson is a little bit further behind. You see the ability, but you’ve got to see the consistency.”

[Niles Paul] Washington Post: The Redskins have officially added rookie wide receiver Niles Paul to their 53-man roster, a person familiar with the situation confirmed Saturday afternoon. Paul tweeted the news that he had made the team a short time later.
